Setting Up The Game

How should we draw the tiles randomly?
the easiest way to draw tiles is to put them face down in the box or tin, and draw them out blindly.

Do we have to build the island in a grid?
Not at all; you can build it in any shape you want.

What do we do with the Starting Location tiles?
In the Beginner's Rules, attach your Starting Location tile to the board after it's built, to show where your Starting Character has landed on the island. In the Advanced Rules, all players should start witht heir Starting Location, and then attach tiles to the Starting Location to begin building the island. And for a really fun version of the Advanced game, attach a tile only when you move your characters!

Movement
How many spaces do my characters move per turn?
Just one per turn, unless you are instructed otherwise (by the Location, a Special Ability, or an Event Card, for example).

Are we supposed to use the Character Cards to move around the board?
No -- they stay in front of you in the game space. Use the small Character Pieces to move around the board. Do this by taking the small photo and placing it in the plastic square.

Character Cards
Are we supposed to show the other players our Character Cards?
Yes, once everyone has chosen their characters, all players should reveal their Character Cards.

Can other players look at my Character Card at any time?
Yes -- the information on the Character Cards should be available at all times.

Rules
Can I just skip to the Advanced Rules?
Yes, but it's recommended that you start with the Beginner's Rules first, as there some basic concepts to the game that should be learned first, before the more subtle aspects of play are introduced.

Are there any major differences between the Beginner's and Advanced Rules?
Yes, several, including that you cannot attempt to lead other player's starting characters, and that Encounters stay on the board if they are not overcome!
