When I move to a Location tile that's face-down, what do I do? First, turn it up. Then, follow the instructions on the tile, IN THE ORDER THEY ARE WRITTEN. If I land on a Location with more than one character, how many Fate cards do I draw? As many as the Location tells you to, and that's it -- you do not draw cards for each character. What if I land on a Location tile, and there is already a Fate card on it (either an Encounter that hasn't been defeated, or a piece of Equipment), do I draw another Fate card? If the Location instructs you to draw one Fate card, no. However, if it instructs you to draw more than one Fate card, then you may draw the remaining cards. What if there is more than one Fate card on a Location I land on, and the Location only instructs you to draw one card? Lucky you -- you've got extra Fate cards to deal with! Some Locations say "Campsite." What does that mean? If a Location is a Campsite, it means there is a neutral character at that Location. After all other actions at the Location have been followed, draw the top card from the Character deck and turn it face up. Then put the character piece for that Character on the Campsite location. The first player to make a successful Leadership check against them gets to take control of them! I just landed on a Campsite. When can I try to lead the neutral character there? After all other instructions on the card have been followed and completed, you may try to control the neutral character, even if you just landed on them. I landed on a Campsite, and drew Mr. Eko. Before I get to attempt to lead him, though, I had to draw a Fate card, and drew an Encounter. Can Mr. Eko help me overcome that Encounter? No, he cannot -- neutral Characters do nothing until they are led. In fact, you shouldn't have even drawn the Character card until after all Actions have been taken. I land on a face-up Location that is a campsite. Do I draw another neutral character? No. Neutral characters only appear when the Location is turned face-up. I have two characters, and I landed on a Campsite. I drew my Fate card, and it was an Event, so I kept it. Do I draw two neutral characters? Can both my characters attempt to lead the neutral characters? Only one neutral character is drawn per Campsite, regardless of how many characters land on that Location. You may combine the powers of all of your characters in the leadership attempt on the neutral character. That's the advantage of keeping your characters together in a group: strength in numbers! If I can turn a Campsite Location face-down, then face-up again, do I draw another Character Card? Theoretically, yes -- but there is no way in the game to do this legally. Yet. I got to peek at a Location through another card, and saw it was a Campsite. Do I also get to peek at the Character Card? No. Being instructed to peek at a Location only lets you see that Location. However, now you know it's a Campsite -- get over there! What do we do with the Starting Location tiles? In the Beginner's Rules, attach your Starting Location tile to the board after it's built, to show where your Starting Character has landed on the island. In the Advanced Rules, all players should start with their Starting Location, and then attach tiles to the Starting Location to begin building the island. And for a really fun version of the Advanced game, attach a tile only when you move your characters! Return to FAQ main page. |
