Walkthrough

This walkthrough of Lost: The Game is intended to demonstrate a typical game and the most common actions. There are many situations that will arise that are not covered in this walkthrough, as no two games are exactly alike.

When ever a rule is demonstrated for the first time, the rule will be called out in the walkthrough.

Setup

Three players, Bruce, John and Melissa sit down to play the beginner's version of the game. They lay out their tiles in a 4x4 grid, with the Shoreline Locations around the outside. They then each attach a Starting Location tile in 3 of the 4 corners, to represent where each will begin. They each roll a die to determine who goes first. Bruce rolls a 6, John rolls a 2, and Melissa rolls a 3. Bruce will go first, followed by John on his left, then Melissa.

Rule: Shuffle the 158 Fate cards into a Fate deck, the 17 Character Cards into a Character deck, and place the Location Tiles face-down on the game space. Place the 17 Character pieces next to the game space.

Taking turns, randomly draw 12 "Shoreline" Location Tiles and 4 "Inner Island" Location Tiles, and place them face-down in a 4x4 grid. Make sure the "Shoreline" Locations stay on the outside, and the "Inner Island" Locations stay on the inside. When the "island" is complete, attach one ½-hex "Starting Location" tile for each player to the outside of the board.

Each player rolls a die to decide who goes first; high roll wins. Roll again to break any ties.

Draw Characters

Bruce, John and Melissa draw Character Cards. Bruce draws Jack, John draws Locke, and Melissa draws Shannon. As Shannon only has a Power of 1, she discards Shannon and draws again, this time getting Kate. They shuffle the Character Cards all together again, and are ready to play.

Rule: Beginning with the first player, and moving clockwise, each player draws a Character Card. For the Beginner Rules only: if you draw a Character with a power of 1 or 2, draw again until you draw one with a Power of 3 or more. Once all players have drawn a Character Card, shuffle the remaining Character Cards into a deck again.
